Mission Lascaux Collaboration at Red Poppy Art House: Marisa Aragona photography, Carolina Czechowska and Embodiment Project dance, Claire Brandt installation. 2012; variable dimensions; cut paper, photo, dance

This project was the result of my residency at the Red Poppy Art House in San Francisco. I designed the installation and created life-size, cut-paper shapes of Orcas, horses, coyotes, birds, and kid hands. I invited the community to help me make the bird cut outs, and worked with the Red Poppy kid program to make the children’s hand shapes. I installed the cut-outs in layers, one per week, over the course of four weeks.

The aim of this project was to bring the vitality of moving animals into this very urban space and viscerally remind participants and viewers of our connectedness to the natural world.

The project gained further depth through collaboration with dancers from the Embodiment Project, Carolina Czchowska, and photographer Marisa Aragona.
